Sport franchise Book
As the Photo Editor on Play Ball!, I spent months immersed in over a century of British Columbia’s baseball history, tracking down imagery that would bring the story to life. This project was driven by deep research and a commitment to visual authenticity. I combed through public archives, private collections, and online sources, and spent hours at the City of Vancouver Archives, sifting through negatives and unpublished material in search of overlooked gems.

My Role
Photo Editor
The process was both investigative and curatorial. With more than 100 years of history to explore, the challenge was not just finding images, but finding the ones that resonated. Photographs needed to tell visual stories of community, competition, and the cultural importance of baseball in British Columbia. From early team portraits to candid moments on and off the field, each image helped reflect the breadth of experience captured in the book.
My role involved identifying, selecting, and sequencing photographs that supported the narrative arc of Play Ball! while honoring the people and places at its heart. This meant pairing historical context with striking visuals, uncovering rare or unpublished images, and shaping a visual language that felt respectful of the past and compelling for today’s readers.
The result is a body of work that deepens the reader’s connection to the story, contributing to a visual record of BC baseball that feels archival yet alive, and that supports the broader cultural exploration at the core of the book.
BEhind the scenes
The team at Nat Bailey Stadium welcomed us onto the home field to document the book in its natural setting. It was a special opportunity to photograph the project where so much of its history lives.
